BATEMAN GROUNDWORKS EXPANDS FLEET WITH 20 NEW TEREX® SITE DUMPERS

Local dealer support and great specifications leads groundworks specialist to choose Terex

Coventry, England, 8th March 2013 – As part of a major fleet expansion, Bateman Groundworks has taken delivery of 20 Terex® TA6 Power Tip site dumpers. The new 6 tonne payload machines were supplied by local dealer Contractors Equipment Sales (CES) in Norwich, and incorporate the latest product updates which deliver excellent productivity and low operating costs.

As part of a move to both expand and improve the productivity of its site dumper fleet, Bateman Groundworks is replacing 15 older Terex models. The Great Yarmouth-based company employs 120 people and specialises in groundworks for large national house builders.

“We usually work on about 10 sites at a time and have had a good 2012 including signing some key contacts which will keep us busy through to 2014,” says Bateman’s founder and managing director Richard Bateman. “Having signed the new contracts, we needed to renew and enlarge the site dumper fleet. So we looked at what was available on the market and it came down to the two biggest players who had very competitive prices and specifications. The choice was made much easier because, over the last six years, we have had excellent service from our existing Terex equipment, which has been very economical and reliable. And we enjoy the good relationship with the local dealer, CES, which has always looked after us very well.”

Batemen’s new Terex TA6 site dumpers have a more powerful and fuel-efficient 62.5kW (84hp) Stage 3A Perkins engine, leading to lower fuel bills and reduced exhaust emissions. The new engine powers the permanent four-wheel drive system through a four forward/four reverse Powershuttle transmission to provide an impressive 1 in 4 gradeability and a maximum speed of 27km/h. Stopping power is provided by oil immersed disc brakes on all four wheels with a transmission park brake. Also, articulation of ±30° provides a 5.6m turning radius at the outside of the skip while ±10.5° of oscillation keeps all four wheels in contact with the ground on even the roughest site.

Supplying dealer CES has recently extended its relationship with Terex to include the sale and support of backhoe loaders and mini excavators. The Norwich-based dealership is well positioned to support Bateman’s site dumpers which are already working on sites across East Anglia.

Pete Barfield, Key Accounts and Dealer Manager at Terex Construction, commented: “This is a good news story all round. It’s good to hear that contractors are still expanding and that great customer support is influencing deals, rather than price alone. Also, it’s encouraging to see that companies are choosing to support their local manufacturers, in this case Terex Construction in Coventry. I’m not surprised that Bateman returned to CES for more machines. CES is our longest serving dealer for site dumpers in the UK and they understand what personal service is all about. These days, customers need a deal that’s fair, but, importantly, they also look for excellent service as well. Ivan and Andy Smith at CES offer just that.”
