Terex Bid-Well Team Wins “Who Makes America” Contest

Voters Select 47 South Dakota Employees As Those Who Best Help Make America

Washington, D.C., The I Make America campaign announced the employees of Terex Bid-Well have been voted the winners of the “Who Makes America” contest. Terex Bid-Well, located in Canton, South Dakota, employs 47 people. They received more than 350 votes in support of their nomination via Facebook and email during the contest’s public voting period.

This past January, the I Make America campaign launched a nationwide search for the person who best captures “making America” through hard work, dedication to community and devotion to American manufacturing. The employees of Terex Bid-Well – known as “team members” – were nominated for their hard work both in the factory and in the community of Canton.

The concrete paving equipment manufacturing business has been operating in Canton since 1961, and in 2010, Terex Bid-Well celebrated the opening of a new 80,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility. The Terex Bid-Well facility manufactures a product line that helps maintain and modernize America’s critical transportation infrastructure system, including bridge deck pavers and overlay machines, road and airport pavers, texturing/curing machines, work bridges and specialized pavers and graders for slope and canal paving. Team members at the facility recently celebrated one year accident free.

In addition to their important contribution to American manufacturing, Terex Bid-Well and its team members make time to give back to their community. Recently, members of the Terex Bid-Well team built a screened-in, three-season porch for residents of the Good Samaritan Home for senior services in Canton, South Dakota. Terex Bid-Well also donates several dinners each year to the Good Samaritan Home.

When a local Eagle Scout took on the challenge of building a regulation height basketball court for the Canton community, Terex Bid-Well lent their efforts to make the project a success. And several employees at Terex Bid-Well serve as volunteer firefighters – ready to put the needs of the community before their own at a moment’s notice.

Upon the announcement of the winners, leaders from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) and Terex offered their statements of support:

“I am very pleased that our Terex Bid-Well location has won the ‘Who Makes America’ competition. The Terex Bid-Well team is a microcosm of Terex throughout the United States – dedicated, quality and safety-driven, and with a strong commitment to both our customers and the local community. Clearly, the voters recognized these special traits, as well. We are very honored.” – Ron De Feo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Terex Corporation

“We are humbled by the outreach of people that voted for our business in Canton to win the Who Makes America contest as there were many great nominations,” – Rob Drew, Site Director, Terex Bid-Well

“I’d like to offer my sincere congratulations to the employees of Terex Bid-Well for winning the ‘Who Makes America’ contest. Their hard work and dedication to the equipment manufacturing industry and their community epitomizes the I Make America campaign. This honor is well deserved, and we are proud to have these 47 employees represent the industry.” – Dennis Slater, AEM President

The Who Makes America contest received 74 nominees and nearly 1000 votes. The winners will receive a $1000 cash prize.
