BOGGY CONSTRUCTION SITES -- NO PROBLEM FOR TEREX® SITE DUMPER
When wet weather threatens construction, this site dumper overcomes the obstacles
WOLLONGONG, AUSTRALIA, June 2014– Redevelopment of city sites is breathing new life into older commercial precincts. However, use of equipment on or at these sites often presents a challenge due to constraints caused by ground conditions or the proximity to other buildings.
Civil contractor, DECC Demolitions, is carrying out earthworks for a redevelopment site in Wollongong, New South Wales, where they had to excavate and remove deep and boggy material while installing drainage.
DECC Site Manager, Ian Watson said, “We needed to move material from different parts of the work site to allow road trucks to be loaded with excavated material for removal. Because of the soft and often wet ground conditions, we needed an all-terrain, high load capacity vehicle which could rapidly travel across the site to minimise loading time.TWS Hire was able to supply just the equipment we needed: a highly manoeuvrable all-terrain Terex®TA6S six tonne tip and swivel dumper that was very easy to operate and has not faltered under full loads in the face of the tough tasks which we have demanded.
“As well as being extremely reliable, the Terex TA6S site dumper is very economical on fuel. Even though the equipment is used regularly, we only need to fill the fuel tank every couple of weeks,” Ian said.
TWS Hire’s Bill Bastian said that its fleet of Terex TA6 site dumpers is constantly in demand for applications such as those encountered by DECC demolition.
Bastian said “Rental customers appreciate how easy these machines are to operate. Reliability is also a big issue for us as the equipment is often on site for many weeks at a time.
“We also need to be very careful about safety issues with all our equipment; however the Terex dumper is so well engineered from an operator safety point of view, it has never been a problem for us.
“Equipped with wet disc brakes and rapid dumping, these Terex TA6S site dumpers are ideal for our rental fleet. Many operators find them an ideal solution for any job sites that present space challenges for larger trucks. With a low centre of gravity, they are very safe and stable. Their rugged construction, which includes a thick steel skip base plate with reinforced box sections, ensures our customers experience minimal maintenance downtime”, Bastian concludes.
DECC has 55 years’ experience in providing specialised demolition, environmental and civil contracting, risk management and project management services within the construction industry. The company operates in Sydney, Canberra, Newcastle, Brisbane metropolitan areas as well as regional and satellite towns and cities along the east coast of Australia.
