Bid-Well, Terex MP brand of specialized concrete paving machines, is proud to announce that its manufacturing facility in Canton, South Dakota achieved a major safety milestone of 3,000 consecutive days without a Lost Time Accident (LTA).
To mark the occasion, the Bid-Well crew gathered for a celebratory meal prepared by Andy Frank, Site HSE Lead, whose culinary efforts brought the team together to enjoy some well-earned recognition.
"Our safety record didn’t happen overnight,” said Andy. “It’s the result of a culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility, not just the HSE team. We are very fortunate to have such a great culture, team members, and leadership.”
According to Brad Goodroad, General Manager at Bid-Well, the top three best practices contributing to this achievement include:
- A responsive leadership team that acts swiftly and sensibly on safety observations, job pauses, and near misses.
- A culture of accountability where safety concerns are welcomed and addressed without fear of punishment.
- A shared understanding that safety is integral to every role, reinforced by transparent disciplinary actions when necessary.
What is of significance is that the milestone is not just about numbers at Bid-Well, it is about people. The Bid-Well team has built a family-like atmosphere, both on and off the clock. Five team members recently formed an adult softball team, playing weekly games that have sparked interest across the site. “It’s a great form of exercise, team building, and fun,” said Andy. “Next year, we expect to field a full Bid-Well team.” That same spirit of teamwork extends into the community, where the Bid-Well team participates in the Adopt-a-Highway program—cleaning two miles of highway twice a year as part of their commitment the Terex Way value of Citizenship.
Brad Goodroad, General Manager at Bid-Well, added, “Safety improvements at Bid-Well are driven by a common-sense approach. That mindset—where every team member feels empowered to speak up, take ownership, and be part of the solution—has created a culture of trust and accountability. Reaching 3,000 days without an LTA is a testament to the dedication, vigilance, and teamwork of every person here. I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished together.”
