Focusing on the Prevention of Serious Injuries & Fatalities (SIF)
In 2015, we recognized that accelerating our progress in the prevention of Serious Injuries and Fatalities required a departure from traditional safety approaches. We changed our standards, metrics and methods to promote identification and control of our most serious hazards. One of those changes was a goal to encourage and empower team members to report “Near Misses”. Since then, we have been tracking our success in increasing the number of Near Misses reported in our organization, a key indicator of our teams increased awareness and engagement in safety and a contributor to our overall decrease in Recordable Injuries.
