Carl's journey with MDS began in 2022 when he joined the business on a summer placement while studying at university. Following the placement, he continued to work part-time during his final year before joining the team full-time in 2023 after graduating. Since then, Carl has become a valued member of the engineering team, consistently demonstrating a strong work ethic, a passion for learning, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
One of the things Carl enjoys most about working at MDS is the opportunity to see a project progress from an initial concept on the screen to a finished machine ready for delivery. Being involved throughout the entire process, from cutting and fabrication through to paint and final assembly, has allowed him to gain valuable insight into every stage of production and apply those learnings to future designs.
Speaking about his experience at MDS, Carl said:
"What I've always enjoyed is being able to see a design develop from the design office right through to the finished machine. Working closely with different departments has helped me understand the challenges they face and how engineering can better support them. I've always been encouraged to develop my skills, whether through training, site visits, or learning from the people around me, and that's been a huge part of my journey so far."
Carl's progression from summer placement student to Lead Engineer is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through dedication, hard work, and a willingness to learn.
