MDS Team Takes on the JFK 50-Mile Challenge

June 09, 2026

On 7 June, a determined group from the MDS team laced up their walking boots and took on the renowned JFK 50 Mile Walking Challenge in Moylagh. What followed was a memorable day filled with achievement, camaraderie and resilience.

The weather certainly kept everyone guessing, delivering all four seasons in a single day with spells of sunshine mixed with showers. However, the ever-changing conditions did little to dampen spirits. Surrounded by the stunning Moylagh countryside, participants were treated to breathtaking scenery, plenty of good craic, and outstanding support from local volunteers and spectators. A few welcome treats along the route provided an extra boost when it was needed most.

While many team members successfully completed their relay challenge, several pushed on long into the night in pursuit of the full solo 50-mile distance. Among them was the incredibly determined Peter, who refused to give up and crossed the finish line as darkness fell, an impressive 17¼ hours after setting out on this remarkable journey.

The challenge was about more than personal achievement. Together, participants raised an incredible €210,059 for the Irish Cancer Society and other local cancer charities. MDS proudly contributed €1,506 towards this fantastic fundraising total, helping to support the vital work these organisations do for individuals and families affected by cancer.

Congratulations to everyone who took part. Your determination, teamwork and generosity embodied the true spirit of the challenge and made the day one to remember.
