Optima Series of Aerial Devices

Terex Utilities Optima Series 2

First introduced in 2017, the Optima series ‘optimizes’ weight and payload with enhanced features of ground access, greater side reach, lower travel height, increased boom speed and responsiveness and improved maintenance access when compared to the legacy models.

The Optima Series includes five Overcenter Models (HR50, HR55, HRX50, HRX55, HRX60) and five Non-Overcenter Models (TC50, TC55, TCX50, TCX55, TCX60).

Frequently used for construction and maintenance of distribution lines, the Optima HR55 is one of the most popular models and has been used during the Hurtman Rescue competition at the International Lineman’s Rodeo every year since 2018.

It was also the model selected for Terex Utilities’ debut of the all-electric bucket truck in 2022. The Optima 55 ft aerial device, powered by the HyPower SmartPTO by Viatec was mounted on an International® Class 6 Medium Duty electric chassis from Navistar. The first 9 customers who received this industry-first aerial device included Xcel Energy, Oncor Electric Company, Central Hudson Gas & Electric, CenterPoint Energy, PNM Resources, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Con Edison, San Diego Gas & Electric, and SaskPower.

Performance

Maintenance: Among the features that keep maintenance costs lower are an extended 10-year replacement period for leveling chains, easier access to rotation bearing bolts on the pedestal, all hydraulic fittings above boom rotation are sealed with O-rings, and powder-coated for a more durable finish.

Working Range: An expanded working range optimizes capacity and supports improved ground access, which makes it easier for operators to hand off tools to ground personnel, clean out debris in the bucket and is useful in operator recovery situations.

Side Reach: Optima TC and HR models boast three feet more side reach. When crews need to reach the lines from the road, more side reach the better.

Productivity

Payload: When it comes to payload capacity, operators always want more and crews want to carry as much gear and equipment on their trucks as possible. By using higher strength steel to reduce overall vehicle weight, some Optima aerial devices enable up to 1,000 pounds more payload depending on chassis configuration.

Boom Speed: Full pressure, open-center hydraulic system, with superior feathering control, enables improved boom speeds and responsiveness.

Operator Aids

Load Alert: Optional Load Alert monitors and analyzes the truck’s jib and basket capacity and provides visible and audible alarms when an overload has been detected to aid users to support their safe work practices.

PAL Device: The Positive Attachment Lanyard (PAL) warning device is an exclusive feature made by Terex Utilities’ and is designed to remind operators to connect their fall protection harness. Inspired by customer feedback, the PAL device provides operators with audio warnings if they forget to hook up their lanyard before elevating a bucket.
