The MDS team laced up their running shoes in March to take on the Carrick Aces Annual 5km Run, marking the official completion of the company’s 12‑week Couch to 5K programme. The event represented more than just a finish line, it was the culmination of months of commitment, teamwork and a shared focus on health and wellbeing.
The initiative forms part of MDS’s wider commitment to corporate social responsibility, encouraging employees to prioritise fitness, mental wellbeing and positive lifestyle habits both in and outside the workplace. For many participants, this was their first time running 5km, making the achievement all the more significant.
A key driver behind the programme’s success was Eric Byrne, HSC Advisor at MDS, who volunteered his time to support the team throughout the journey. A passionate running enthusiast and experienced coach, Eric led training sessions, shared guidance and provided ongoing encouragement, helping colleagues of all abilities build confidence and resilience over the 12 weeks.
“Seeing the team progress from their first sessions right through to completing the Carrick Aces 5km has been incredibly rewarding,” said Eric. “The commitment and support they showed each other really made the difference.”
The programme has already created strong momentum across the business, strengthening team bonds while promoting a healthier, more active culture at MDS. With the success of Couch to 5K now behind them, the team is setting its sights on an even bigger challenge - the upcoming 50‑mile challenge taking place this June.
As MDS continues to invest in initiatives that support employee wellbeing and community engagement, this achievement stands as a powerful example of what can be accomplished when people come together with a shared goal.
