Recycling Case Study

M518R Processing Shredded Tree Stumps

A customer in Ireland faced the challenge of screening shredded tree stumps for the renewal of their biofilter.

In search of a versatile machine that moved around site at ease and seamlessly integrated into their existing setup, they chose the MDS M518R compact recycling trommel to tackle the challenge at hand.

The Challenge

The customer encountered difficulties when using other equipment, failing to achieve the desired outcome. A crucial stipulation was the need for the selected machine to possess adequate stockpiling height and integrate with existing fleet machinery while effectively segregating fines material from shredded stumps.

The M518R Recycling Trommel Solution

The MDS M518R provided an excellent solution for this application. Its ease of setup allowed the customer to be up and running in less than 10 minutes and the 180- degree radial fines conveyor was ideal for this application as the fines material could be directed away from the loading direction irrespective of which side the customer wished to load from. The M518R compact recycling trommel was successfully able to be fed by the customer’s existing slow speed shredder and capacity was more than enough to screen anything the shredder could throw at it.

Job Requirements

  • Separate the fines material from the shredded stumps and leave a clean oversize material for use in the renewal of the bio filter. Clean oversize material was essential in this application to ensure optimal airflow through the biofilter bed.

Key Benefits

1.Radial fines conveyor: Efficiently directs fine material away from the loading direction, optimizing screening efficiency.

2.Adjustable drum and feeder speed: Allows for precise control via remote, enhancing operational flexibility and efficiency.

3.Engine efficiency: The M518R's CAT C2.2 engine ensures low fuel usage, approximately 7 litres per hour, contributing to cost savings and environmental sustainability.

4.Infinitely adjustable brush cleaner: Maintains drum cleanliness while minimising brush wear, ensuring consistent screening performance and prolonging equipment lifespan.

Conclusion

The adoption of the MDS M518R recycling trommel proved to be the best solution for the customer. By addressing the challenge of efficiently screening shredded tree stumps for biofilter renewal, this unit enhanced operational efficiency, minimized material wastage, and optimized resource utilization. Its seamless integration, advanced features, and performance reliability underscored its value as an indispensable asset in the customer's recycling fleet. Overall, the successful implementation of the M518R compact recycling trommel demonstrates its capability to meet diverse application needs and contribute to sustainable recycling practices.
