Envir Soil Washing Plant – Turning Waste into Resource

Envir’s advanced soil washing plant demonstrates how innovative processing can recover valuable materials from contaminated soil, achieving both environmental and economic benefits. With a recovery rate of up to 80%, including the cleaning of fine sand, the facility plays a vital role in sustainable land remediation and material reuse.

Problem

Traditionally, contaminated soil and pulp from excavation projects are classified as waste and sent to landfill, leading to high disposal costs, increased CO₂ emissions from transport, and the permanent loss of reusable materials. For large-scale urban and industrial development projects, this presents both an environmental challenge and a financial burden.

Solution

Envir’s state-of-the-art soil washing plant offers a modern, circular alternative. Incoming material is weighed, assessed for waste content, and processed through multiple washing and sorting stages, including the use of a Logwasher to break down and remove contaminants. Fine sand fractions are also cleaned and sorted to customer-specified sizes, maximizing recovery and reusability.

To further reduce environmental impact, Envir operates its own ISPS quay, capable of accommodating vessels up to 5,000 tons. This enables the efficient import/export of bulk material by sea, significantly reducing truck movements on local roads and allowing for the safe transport of heavily contaminated material to specialized European facilities.

Additional services include in-house TML testing (Transport Moisture Limit) for maritime safety compliance and expert environmental consultancy to help clients better manage and understand the reuse potential of their excavated masses.

Results

  • Up to 80% material recovery, including clean fine sand

  • Significant reduction in landfill use and associated disposal costs

  • Lower CO₂ emissions through both material reuse and marine transport

  • Enhanced project sustainability and regulatory compliance

  • Improved customer awareness through targeted environmental advice
