Neal Hanratty Cup Raises Over £4,000 for Charities

Terex Omagh proudly hosted the 6th annual Neal Hanratty Memorial Cup on Friday 7th July, which proved to be a thrilling 7-a-side football tournament and charity fundraiser. The event, which took place at the Omagh Rugby Club, brought together 24 teams from Terex sites across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. With a day filled with football, delicious barbecue, and entertainment, the event proved to be a resounding success, raising over £4,000 for worthy causes.

The Neal Hanratty Memorial Cup is an annual event which started in 2016 to honour the memory of our esteemed colleague, Neal Hanratty. Moreover, it serves as a remarkable opportunity for Terex team members to showcase their football skills, foster team spirit, and contribute to charitable causes.

In the spirit of giving, Terex Omagh invited its team members to nominate charities close to their hearts. From the numerous nominations, four charities were selected to benefit from the fundraiser: Guide Dogs NI, Air Ambulance, Marie Curie, and Aware. Every contribution made by participants and attendees during the event will go towards supporting these worthy causes. Each of these four charities will receive £1,000 each.

The Omagh Rugby Club served as an excellent venue for the tournament, which was designed to provide an exciting and competitive experience for all teams involved. Divided into four groups, with six teams per group, each team had the opportunity to play five matches of eight minutes each. The top two teams from each group advanced to the quarter-finals, leading to the highly anticipated semi-finals and the ultimate clash in the final match. Terex Ballymoney prevailed as the winning team after defeating Omagh’s Fab Utd and were crowned as the champions of the Neal Hanratty Memorial Cup 2023.

The event not only showcased the athletic prowess of our employees but also welcomed supporters and non-football players to join in the festivities. Colleagues and friends came together to cheer for their teammates and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, which was enhanced by the entertainment on the night provided by comedians Fintan Harvey & Ro Boyle followed by DJ Enda.

David Tierney, one of the key organisers of the event who had the enormous job of pulling together all the footballing logistics, also took the time to highlight and thank team members for the huge support given from across Terex, saying “Thank you to all participants, supporters, and volunteers who made the Neal Hanratty Memorial Cup a great success. It was an amazing effort, from the football teams who participated, those who sold raffle tickets at the factories in advance (and during the BBQ), those who bought raffle tickets, those who donated prizes, and all other helpers before, during and after the event.

A special thank you goes to the referees who hadn’t an easy job, being given the task to referee matches which got very competitive at times —when things got hot and heavy the organising committee thanks them for sticking with it!

Finally, a big thank you to the chefs and kitchen staff who had the mammoth task in feeding over 300 people, great job.”

Congratulations to everyone on a fantastic event! Through their collective efforts, the Neal Hanratty Cup was a resounding success and the money raised will make a positive impact to the chosen charities. Let us continue to embody the spirit of compassion and unity that makes Terex a truly remarkable community!
