How Meeting Your Sustainability Goals Makes Good Business Sense
Electric utilities across the nation have set net-zero carbon emission goals, with many committed to a 50 percent reduction in emissions – in as little as 5 to 10 years. This has posed one of the biggest challenges when it comes to the electrification of their heavy-duty fleets, including bucket trucks and digger derricks. Some of these utilities have taken a major step forward by purchasing and using the industry-first all-electric bucket truck introduced by Terex Utilities in 2022. Others are hesitant to take the full step – and have opted to use an ePTO system – like the HyPower SmartPTO by Viatec – instead.
Terex has actively worked with Viatec since 2019, focusing on simple and reliable plug-in electric PTO solutions for utility equipment that help minimize engine idling, reducing carbon emissions and enabling quieter equipment operation. Terex and Viatec launched the latest SmartPTO product offerings at The Utility Expo in September 2021 (view video here), and Terex now offers SmartPTO on a variety of its bucket trucks and digger derricks. SmartPTO eliminates noise and carbon emissions while also lowering operating costs and extending the life of utility equipment by reducing engine operating hours.
In this week’s Utility Pros, we share one of Viatec’s recent articles that covers how the SmartPTO solution can help protect the engine, add years to its service life, and free up millions of dollars each year for vocational fleets.
