Small Rubber-Tracked Carriers Can Benefit Utility Crews

Rubber-tracked backyard aerial device

Bucket trucks and digger derricks mounted on small rubber-tracked carriers offer several benefits to utility companies who are required to work in tight places. Crews experience improved efficiency in doing their work, a reduction in project timelines, and less environmental impact compared to other equipment options.

Movability:

Utility crews can more easily maneuver and operate in tight places, like small backyards or easements and other confined areas. The smaller carriers allow for crew members to transport transformers and other equipment into backyards, through gates in most instances and without having to move fences.

Lighter Weight:

Small rubber-tracked carriers are lighter weight compared to most utility trucks, which allows for less damage to property and landscape. Rubber tracks also distribute the vehicles weight over a larger surface area compared to tires, which reduces ground pressure and damage to the ground.

Ground Stability:

The rubber tracks offer a wide footprint, allowing for more stability when traveling on uneven or sloping ground.  Operators working at height on bucket trucks or performing ground operations with digger derricks experience enhanced safety, as the extra traction reduces the risk of movement and possible equipment damage.

Ground and Weather Versatility:

Small rubber-tracked carriers can navigate various terrains and remote locations. They provide excellent traction and stability in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and ice. If needed, utility crews can continue their operations effectively, even in adverse weather conditions, minimizing disruptions to service.

Terex Utilities partners with S.D.P Manufacturing to offer bucket trucks and diggers on small rubber-tracked carriers. These carriers easily fit through a 36” opening and have a lifting capacity of 900 lbs. for the Terex TL45 material handling aerial and up to 5,500 lbs. for the SDP digger derricks.
