Service Technicians in the construction and utility industry work on a wide variety of equipment and perform a wide variety of tasks. Any given day a tech may perform inspections, troubleshoot issues, or repair machinery. There may be times that techs run into a challenge and are not sure how to complete a repair or task. This can pose a big problem, since one of their main goals is to get that piece of equipment back to work in a timely manner.

Tips for Service Technicians

Terex Utilities currently offers over 190 Tech Tips on its website that answer frequently asked questions or common challenges customers have posed to the Terex Product Support Team. Tech Tips are regularly created and posted and focus on accomplishing a single adjustment, repair, or component replacement, with step-by-step instructions and graphics. Customers have commented that Tech Tips can help save hours and money trying to figure out an issue.

Designed for quick reference, some topics are specific to certain Terex Utilities models and others are more general in nature. Topics take a closer look at many of the everyday challenges technicians and operators face in the field. In many cases, photos are provided, and video has been integrated into some of the new and existing tech tips to help demonstrate the topic. Information is intended to supplement model specific operation and maintenance manuals. Each Tech Tip identifies what the service call is, the tools required, and which Terex Utilities models it applies to.

Tech Tip Examples

Tech Tip #67, for example, applies to Terex Utilities telescopic aerial devices and over center aerial devices. It discusses how to adjust the demand throttle switch so the engine speed will increase as the hydraulic pressure increases indicating a requirement for more flow to operate boom functions.

In Tech Tip #38 on Adjustable Hydraulic Valves, Duane Torgerson, National Service Technician shares important safety reminders about proper PPE for working with fluid under pressure and what to do if you experience an accidental fluid injection.

Tech Tip #165 is about Cleaning Fiber Optic Connections on units with Load Alert System and on the Z45 SUB unit. Steve Burmood, National Service Technician, provided step-by-step instructions and demonstration of the process.
