Do You Know Your Load? This Tool Can Help

All bucket trucks have a maximum rated load established by the manufacturer. Operating within this range is an important facet of operator safety and preventing equipment damage. Everyone know this, but operator misuse can result in a boom being overloaded. Fortunately, Terex Utilities can help. 

The Terex® Load Alert™ system supplements current safe work practices by monitoring the boom cylinders and alerting the operator when an overload occurs. The system will provide various levels of audible and visual warnings based on the severity of the overload condition. 

When the system is operational, a steady green beacon at the lower controls will indicate that all systems report normal. If the system loses connection with its sensors, the light at the lower controls will flash yellow. This notification indicates that the system is not functioning properly and is not able to monitor the boom load. 

If the system senses an overload condition: 

• At 105% to 120% of rated load, the beacon will flash red-green sequence and sound an audible beep every 1.5 seconds.

• At 121% to 150% of rated load, the beacon will flash a red-red-green sequence and sound beep 2 times every 1.5 seconds.

• Above 151%, the system will flash red-red-red-green and sound an alarm of 3 beeps every 1.5 seconds.

• A yellow beacon will activate if the connection has been lost to the system sensors, and the LAS will not alert the operator to an overload condition.

• If an overload is detected, it is important to stop operation and remove the cause of the overload to prevent serious injury, death, or machine damage. 

The load alert system is also telematics capable and features an option that can send an email notification to a specified location, like the fleet department, to assist with inspection protocol if an overload occurs.  

The system is available on new production, or as a retrofit kit for the following products: Optima TC \ TCX \ HR \ HRX, TM,  RMX, SC42, TL41 and LT40.
