You Can't Go Wrong With a PAL in Your Bucket

PAL - positive attachment lanyard

Properly connecting a fall arrest harness to an approved lanyard attachment point is a required safe work practice when operating a bucket truck. Unfortunately, operators may overlook this important step. They may strap on a harness, climb in the bucket, and immediately get to work…but accidentally forget to clip in! Similarly, you can start your car without your seat belt fastened, but in this case, your vehicle sounds an alarm to remind you. That’s exactly what the Terex Positive Attachment Lanyard (PAL) system does.

How It Works

The PAL system is an operator aid that provides an audible warning when the bucket truck boom controls are engaged and a lanyard has not been attached to anchor point. When the operator properly hooks into a lanyard to the attachment point, a switch is activated signaling that the lanyard is attached. If the operator is not clipped in, and attempts to operate the boom, an audible alarm sounds. The system will not prevent boom operations.

With a PAL in the bucket, the operator now has a new aid to augment their existing fall prevention work practices.

Availability

The PAL system is available for one- or two-person bucket options. On a unit with a two-person bucket, and two lanyard attachment points, the system defaults to a two person setting. This requires both anchor-point switches to be activated, or the alarm will sound. If there is only a single operator in the 2-person bucket, the operator will have to acknowledge that there isn’t another person in the platform and press the single person toggle switch.

The PAL system is available on new production or as a retrofit kit for the following bucket truck models:

  • Hi-Ranger TL / LT / LTM – 1 person side mount
  • Hi-Ranger TL / LT / LTM – 2-person
  • Hi-Ranger Optima series – 1 & 2-person (side mount)
  • Hi-Ranger TM – 1 & 2 person
  • Hi-Ranger XT Pro – 1 person side mount
  • Kits for additional models will be created upon request.
